Maui Youth & Family Services’ Therapeutic Foster Care Program

Do you want to make a difference in your community?

MYFS is actively recruiting families for our Therapeutic Foster Care Program, which provides a normative, family life experience in a supportive environment for individuals between 10 and 17 years old

Youth in this program have emotional and behavioral health needs that require more intensive intervention than can be accommodated in traditional foster care.

With Therapeutic Foster Care, we combine the positive aspects of a nurturing home environment with active and structured therapeutic treatment.

The ultimate goal is to reunify youth with their families whenever appropriate and possible.

The program provides:

Crisis intervention, stabilization and counseling

Opportunities for pro-social leisure activities (for both foster youth and families) that match individuals’ personal interests, cultures and abilities

Academic support through collaboration with schools to assess needs, define goals and measure youth’s progress

Maui Youth & Family Services is a licensed Child Placing Organization that recruits and licenses our own foster parents with approval from the Hawaii Department of Human Services

We recruit, train and support Therapeutic Foster Care parents and provide licensed clinical staff to oversee individualized treatment plans and provide therapeutic services such as individual and family therapy, crisis intervention, case coordination and medication support.

Therapeutic Foster Care parents receive a monetary stipend, access to our 24-hour support hotline and extensive (both initial and ongoing) training by our counselors and clinical staff. Foster families learn about trauma informed care — how to provide an environment that is supportive and empowering for youth who have experienced trauma. Foster families also learn how to help youth build and maintain healthy relationships, cope with daily stressors, manage emotions and improve communication skills.

We carefully match youth with foster families whose training, experience and professional competence maximize an appropriate fit for success and healing.
